Dream, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches
When I first began exploring surreal imagery when I studied at York University in Canada, I painting mixed media images of women wrapped in dried leaves, and called it my cocoon series. This painting is similar in feeling, though the forest of lotus leaves behind the sleeping figure comes from traditional Chinese ink painting. I dream every night: rich, vivid dreams that leave me exhausted in the morning. This is the most peaceful one I can imagine.
