In 2001 a friend introduced me to a wonderful film from France called les peuple migratoire, about migratory birds. I was so impressed with the journey of herons and cranes and other birds over so many thousands of miles through storms and hunger and thirst, I knew I had to paint this subject. Dedication to a task, devotion to a noble idea, and a sense of deep, inner direction are human qualities too, worthy of celebration.
