Jia Lu, Sage (2011), oil on canvas, 48x48 inches (detail).

The same model as my 1998 work Flight, but this painting shows how much more I've learned about painting in the last twelve years. The brushwork is looser, the colours more subtle and varied, and I've allowed parts of the painting to drift out of focus. This is a photograph off my easel of the work in progress. I'll re-post when I have a good scan made.

Thanks for all your comments! The model was a student of mine, who now lives with his wife in the south of France, growing Muscat grapes and riding his bicycle across the countryside.
